Bespoke country clothing with a breath of fresh air...
Work inspired by cashmere and pure wool tweed fabrics made in Scotland and England.
Alternative 'country' designs which are totally functional, but not necessarily traditional.
HOW THE TWEED DESIGNS EVOLVED
The 'tweedy' strand of Atelier really came into being via the enthusiasm of one of my customers.
At a fitting, I mentioned some swatches that had just arrived. On seeing them, she loved them, and asked me to design some jackets which were a little offbeat, not traditional in shape or design, and chose five different fabrics from the Moon's 'Tweed Estates' range. The brief was that the clothing, including some trousers, should be functional, warm and stylish when working outdoors with her dogs.
As a lover of fabrics myself, (that's where the design process starts after all), I was naturally thrilled, as the quality of the fabric, and subtlety of the woven colours was fabulous.
In rural Oxfordshire where my studio is situated, shootin' and fishin' and horses (if not huntin') , all play a part in the life of the surrounding country. Being a fashion girl, and never having been personally involved in such, I was nevertheless very excited to design for the luscious pure wool tweeds which arrived as 'stock bunches' of 'Tweed Estates' fabrics from the wonderful Moon's in the north!
Some of the traditional pattern names (weave designs) are fantastic:
Old Meldrum, Fetter Angus, Tomintoul.....
So, after some internet research which showed some good quality bespoke makers, but not a great deal of designer style going on for women wanting such, I decided to promote this strand of my business, as there was definitely a gap in the market.
Couture quality is, as ever, my standard and I aim to use only pure wool, cashmere and the best quality linings, Italian leather buttons and trims.
